 Thoughts on Web Development
TykeMail Wednesday, April 20, 2005 2:18 PM
I've worked on TykeMail.com today. After much deliberation, I've decided to yank out Dreamweaver's code to to the navbar. It worked great until you had to maintain it. Copying html/script into every page isn't the way to achieve particularly good code reuse. What a pain. After seeing how asp.net works with menus, masterpages, and themes I'm quite excited to try them out. I noticed today that the hosting service that I host this site on DiscountASP.NET is now offering a beta of asp.net. I might try to switch over in the coming weeks.

Re-arranging the office Wednesday, April 13, 2005 10:58 AM
I'm re-arranging the office today. I do it every six months or so. The reason is to re-invigorate my work efforts. One of my favorite productivity studies that I read about while I was in college was where in a factory, the management wanted to see how they could affect productivity through changes in the environment. They changed out all the light bulbs in the factory with ones of higher wattage. They found that productivity went up... initially. After a while it returned to normal. Some months later, management decided to go back to the original wattage light bulbs. They found that productivity went up again. The conclusion is that almost any changes in the workspace environment seems to increase productivity. So with that in mind, I'm moving my desk around in the office.
